2025 CUGH LEADERSHIP AWARDS

The Consortium of Universities for Global Health wishes to acknowledge the accomplishments and commitment of outstanding individuals who contribute to the advancement of global health worldwide. CUGH has three awards that will be presented at its annual Global Health Conference. 

Award Categories:

  • CUGH Distinguished Leadership Award

  • CUGH's Dr. Thomas Hall-Dr. Nelson Sewankambo Mid-Career Leadership Award

  • CUGH's Dr. Wasserheit Young Leader Award

DR. ANVAR AND PARI VELJI/CUGH AWARDS
FOR GLOBAL HEALTH EXCELLENCE

The Velji Family Foundation annually celebrates global health education, research and service by honoring individuals and projects that demonstrate committed, creative approaches to serving underserved populations.

Awardees are recognized at the awards ceremony and each receive a plaque and a small monetary award via mail to support ongoing global health activities.

JAMES G. HAKIM GLOBAL HEALTH AWARD, SPONSORED BY AFREHEALTH, CUGH, AND THE FOGARTY INTERNATIONAL CENTER

To celebrate the tremendous scientific and public health accomplishments that mark the prolific career of Dr. Hakim and memorialize the loss of this great humanitarian, an award has been established in his name.

Sponsors:

Criteria:

  • Currently enrolled in a degree-granting educational program from an accredited African university, OR no more than five years from receiving a terminal degree (at the time of abstract submission);

  • AND is a citizen of an African country;

  • AND has a primary professional affiliation with an Africa-based institution.

Reflection in Global Health Contest 2025

The 2025 Reflection in Global Health Contest offers students and professionals an opportunity to submit reflective pieces on their experiences in global health education, research, or practice.

Open to trainees and global health practitioners/educators from undergraduate to post-graduate levels, especially from low-middle income countries, this contest encourages reflections in various mediums including essays, art, video, photographs, and case studies.

Submissions are due by November 1, 2024

CUGH Global Health Video Competition

The 12th annual CUGH Global Health Video Competition invites individuals to submit short videos (under 5 minutes) showcasing either Global Health Challenges or High Impact Solutions.

Open to everyone, with a strong encouragement for submissions from those in low-resource settings, the competition highlights pressing global issues or impactful solutions. Winners and honorable mentions will be featured at the CUGH 2025 conference, with the top videos receiving a free conference registration.

Submission deadline is October 15, 2024.

2025 Untold Stories of Global Health Competition

The 2025 Untold Stories of Global Health Competition, co-hosted by CUGH and Global Health NOW, seeks to highlight underreported global health issues that have a significant impact on people's well-being. Participants are invited to submit a 150-word nomination describing an overlooked health story, with the winner receiving free registration to the CUGH 2025 conference and their story featured in GHN.

The submission deadline is November 8, 2024, selected entries will be promoted on CUGH and GHN platforms.

CUGH Global Health Student Poster Competition

CUGH will provide 7 poster awards to the top scoring student posters submitted for presentation at CUGH 2025. One for each of the 6 tracks plus Global Health Education. Students must opt in on the abstract submission form to be eligible for these awards. Each winner will receive a certificate, a waived registration to attend the conference, and be honoured on CUGH's communications platforms. They will receive their award at CUGH 2025.

Students/Trainees who wish to compete must submit an abstract for presentation, and opt in to compete on the abstract submission form.

​Competition is open to abstracts addressing a project or activity conducted by an individual(s) with student status during the project period that relate to the conference theme or one of the tracks. The project, program, activity to be presented must be completed by June 30, 2024.

BURSARIES FOR LLMIC PRESENTERS

CUGH is happy to announce that a limited number of bursaries will be provided to abstract presenters from Low Income Countries, and Lower-middle Income Countries to the 15th Annual CUGH Conference. Citizens and residents of LLMICs can qualify by submitting an abstract for presentation.

The Bursary Package includes:

  • 1 waived registration for the CUGH 2025 Conference

  • Hotel Stay (4 nights) from Feb 19-Feb 23, 2025

  • $500 Travel Stipend

To qualify for consideration, submit an abstract for presentation, and opt in on the abstract form.
